Baked Parmesan Gluten Free Onion Rings & Tempura Prawns

After Mary sent me the mouth watering link to https://cookingwithmammac.com/baked-parmesan-gluten-free-onion-rings once I saw the photo I needed to try and make these this weekend!! 

The recipe is fairly easy and I used a little less ingredients than the website as there was only two of us and it was just a starter snack

Gluten Free Onion Rings

  • 1 large sweet onion (I used a red onion)
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 cups finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 3/4 teaspoons garlic powder

Mix the grated Parmesan cheese, paprika and garlic powder in a food bag.

Once you have sliced the onion into rings and separated. Make a production line and pop them in the cornstarch, then the egg white and finally the Parmesan coating. Then place on a tray ideally with a rack. 

Bake in the oven at about 200 degrees for about 11 - 14 minutes. Keep an eye on them as I have a fan oven and they cooked rather fast. 

Only downside to this recipe is the Parmesan coating gets very sticky after a while from the egg white so if you are looking to make a lot double the ingredients. 

We didn't use anything to dip them in as they were so tasty on their own!

Gluten Free Tempura Prawns

I miss tempura prawns with a soy dipping sauce and sweet chilli.


  • 200 gPrawns
  • Cooking oil
  • 1 cup of corn flour
  • 2 teaspoons of melts butter
  • 1 cup of soda water or gluten free beer
  • Paprika 
  • Salt

Mix the melted butter and flour together along with half a teaspoon of paprika and a pinch of salt. Then add the soda water and mix thoroughly. The mixture will feel thick and sticky. 

Dip the prawns in some separate corn flour, then dip in the batter and deep fry in hot oil.

Drain and place on kitchen towel then when all are cooked serve with tamari soy sauce and sweet chili sauce for dipping.
